Information Overload

(A Pre-Finals Rant)

Piles and stacks of words,
ideas, names, questions, histories, facts
continue to build homes in my brain.
Soon there are complicated webs
of connected subdivisions,
marketplaces, suburbs, cities
with extensive expressways
for zipping between
each time it's time to think of something else;
or telephone wires
for drawing lengthy connections
though the wi-fi installed in most places
is much more efficient.

Such a roaring, clamoring
city of information
where voices never quiet
and input does not cease;
necessity ever-present;
population in constant expansion.

Such an array of sights,
sounds, and smells;
so much of interest to be observed

till the noise
drowns out all thought

till input
smogs up an intricate sky
and imagination is all but obscured.

O glittering, fast-paced city
with no space for
pause
and reflection,

and everything to be learned
and discerned

I think
I think better
in clusters of villages,
hamlets, and towns.
