Prayer

We assemble quietly in the living room,
A place of warmth from winter's darkness,
From the cold and wear of the trudging week;

We come with our emptiness and aching places,
With slivers of joy and cautious sparks of hope,
And we are met with the richness of silence.

Desperately, fearfully, we show our weary burdens,
Lay bare the colors of our joy,
Reveal intricate beauty of yearning hearts.

Open ears hear;
Attentive eyes see,
And we draw near to show His love.

Plaintive whispers cry to the Father;
Broken whispers beseech the King.
Our limited stores seek His vast love.

And our silence and our whispers are powerful
                              Because God hears.
