Creation Canticle

I heard God's voice
     in the wind through the trees;
he said, "My child,
     find a song like these."

The waves on the shore
     spoke to me
and said, "Our song
is a praise and a plea."

The crickets sing
     long and low:
"Sing all you are
    and have and know."

The mourning doves
     greet all new days
with sweet and gentle
     hymns of praise.

The rainfall
     plays a rhapsody
and sings,
     "Find thee a melody."

Angels stretch
     from sky to sky
and with strange
     unearthly voices cry:

"All creatures here
     from last to least
prepare ye for the wedding feast
where everyone shall sing
     their song
to glorious King
     all night long."

Bright and quick
     or long and low
we'll sing and dance
     fast and slow

But now we sing
     our living hope
our joy to fill
     all plain and slope.

Rejoice with these
     rich and poor:
There's something more,
     there's something more!
